Demo Update, More Decor, and THIS not That!

Demo Update
As I mentioned in my previous post the majority of the demo is done as well as the framing.  Now we're onto the electrical and plumbing work.  Here's a few snapshots.

Here is a snapshot from several days ago in the garage soon-to-be master bedroom.  Right now you're looking into the kitchen area.  You'll see in a second that that wall is now boarded up and will separate the two rooms.

Here's a view from the family room looking into the kitchen.  Behind the boarded up wall is the master bedroom from the photo before.  Pretty neat huh?!

Final demo picture for the day.  Right now I'm standing in the foyer and to the left is the dining room, the middle is the family room and the top right corner is the kitchen.  It's all coming together so fast!!!

More Decor and THIS not That!
As I mentioned in a previous post, my most recent trip to Pottery Barn has my wheels spinning about what I want to do with the family and dining rooms... However, the cost to achieve these looks at PB's pricing is just outrageous to me.

PB Custom Sofa
This bad boy retails at approximately $1500 at PB.

Custom Friday Sofa
I have it on good authority that this retailer purchased the PB sofa and replicated it, here's hoping!!   This sofa also gets great reviews!  Where did I find it?  JCPenny of all places!!  This sofa is on sale right now for $845.  I can handle that!!!

Coffee Table
Remember this?
I LOVE this coffee table!  It retails at PB for $600.  Seriously?!  Seriously.

Originally I had found a steal on CraigsList and set it up to purchase it from the people.  Well the day I was going to go get it they said they sold it the night before.  THANKS DUDE!  I just thought that was rude.

So I keep searching around and low and behold!!!
This guy walks into my life!!!  And almost exact replica of the PB sofa for almost half the cost!!  It's heavy and sturdy and I just LOVE it!  Found it at World Market on sale for $329.  Hooray!

Dining Set
So we've decided to not have a nook in the new house and instead are just going to have a 2 person eat in island and make the formal dining area more of an informal eating area which I am SUPER excited about!!!  Check this out!
Hubs sort of freaked out when I showed this to him because he said it looked like crap... Thanks honey :) But when I showed him more up close pictures he actually liked it!   I'm not going to buy the 2 end chairs... I'm not sure exactly what will go at the ends but I want something that will pop.  Perhaps something like this...
Not exactly this... but you get the picture.  Something different and fun!

8/29/11 Update on Living Room:
Here's exactly what I'm going for!!!
LOVE EVERYTHING about this set!!!  I'm 99.99999% it's THE ONE.

And finally, here's the light that will go above the dining table...
Just the look I'm going for!!!

Kitchen Windows
So the kitchen will have a wall of windows above the counter looking over the pool area.  I want curtains there but nothing too dramatic.  I thought this concept would work great!

Basically sliders half way up the window.  What a great idea!!!

That's it for now!!

Pottery Barn Inspiration & Great Finds!

Since we're still in the pre-finish out stage of our renovations I really don't have much to do in the way of work on the house.  Demo is done and they are working on finishing up the framing as we speak.  And since my mind always wants to be pushing forward with the house, I've gotten a little ahead of myself and decided I want to decide on some decor :)

Pottery Barn has been my sole inspiration thus far and since I don't want to spend an arm and a leg redoing my decor, I've decided to emulate their looks and save some money.

Master Bedroom
This bed looks so cozy and inviting I just cannot help but want the entire set!  To get this look I'd be at the low end spending $700 to $1000 at PB.  No thanks.

I've shopped around and decided that this duvet cover and shams is a great place to start!
This duvet cover got stellar reviews...and it was on sale for $90, what a steal!  I was looking for something of substance that would be heavy but soft and feel lush and I think this is it!  I bought Ivory sheets for $50 to go with it.

I also found this:
The blue one.  I found this for $21!!  A similar blanked at PB costs $150 so I'm very happy with the price.  It will go above the flat sheet underneath the duvet cover.  That way we can pull down the duvet each night and just use the blanket and sheet when we sleep.

I've still got a ways to go to achieve this look, I need to find some additional pillows, I'm thinking a few quilted ones in solid colors.  PB has some but they are outrageously expensive so I'm going to keep looking!

Since we do not currently have a headboard for our master bed, this idea came to mind!
I love the upholstered look!

My great idea: I've commissioned my handy-dandy husband to MAKE this headboard.  He's recently bought all these fancy tools and saws so I'm going to put it to good use!  I think, some wood, foam, and linen fabric and vuala!  I've got my beautiful headboard.  Will definitely post progress on that once he's started!!!

Living Room
I walked past this room set at PB just the other day and fell in love...
To me, this is the epitome of homey.  I feel like I could just walk right into this picture and snuggle up with my hubs.  I also adore that coffee table!

Here it is up close.  It's made out of reclaimed wood from ship doors (or so they say).  Now $600 is a bit pricey for me to spend on a coffee table so....

I found this!
The look and feel is very similar to the PB one and it's got a ton of storage space inside!  Found it on CraigsList for $60!  Heck yea!

I've actually decided to do my living room like this:
So instead of a sectional, we'll have a sofa and 2 complimentary chairs.  Again, doesn't this room look so homey and wonderful?!

Formal Dining Room
We decided not to have a nook area in this new house and instead are going to do an eat-in bar on the island.  In that case, I really want to change up the formal dining room furniture which is super frustrating since we just bought our current set a few years ago.  I'm hoping to sell it for close to what we paid for it.

New Look I'm Going for:
This or maybe...

This.  What do you think??

Keep in mind, going for the 'Old World' look.

More to come on this...

The Garage (aka Why We're Moving)

It's true, the reason we even entertained the idea of moving out of the house we just renovated a little over a year ago is because of the garage space.  Hubs has no room to do all of the things he loves; welding, wood working, and of course working on Betty the Blazer :)  We extensively looked into adding an additional garage to our current home but it just wouldn't work with our current land set up.

Meet Betty!!!

Boy oh boy do I love this truck!  She's super duper fun to ride in!!  I'm not sure you can tell, but the back seat is open air.  Just ridin' around town is incredibly entertaining for us!! F-U-N.

She's also the main reason I haven't parked my car in the garage for more than a week since we moved here.  Hubs just needs more room to play :)

Garage Site Before

I'm a BIG tree person so imagine my disappointment when taking down this two huge trees was the only choice we had for the garage site.  It was very important to me that you couldn't see the garage at all when sitting in the back yard and we had this huge side yard that ended up being the best choice.

Garage Site Cleared
Even looking at it now makes me very sad for those trees.  The bright side is that hubs will have his dream garage and I'll be able to actually park in the garage too!!!  And even better, it's hidden from most of the house view.  YAY!

Will post progress soon!!

"Old World Charm"

Good morning!

I'd like to share a few of my decor ideas with you.  When we designed our current house we made it very much like you'd see if you were to go out and purchase a new build home.... the colors, the lighting, etc. were all very safe choices that appeal to a very broad audience.  Don't get me wrong, I love love love our current house, just excited for a change!  In this new house I've decided I want something more unique, with more character, and I've decided on Old World Charm :) with my hubs approval of course.  Fortunately he and I have very similar taste so I think it'll be an easy sell.  Here are a few of my almost-made decisions.

Kitchen
I just love the feel of this kitchen, the colors, the floors and the stone arch over the range.  Chris and I do disagree on wood in the kitchen and I'm pretty sure he's going to win that battle.  We have it now and it's just a pain to keep clean.  I may go for some wood look tiles if we can find some we like.

I did decide to go with the side by side refrigerator freezer set like in the kitchen below, it was my original inspiration and I still plan to use more ideas from it.  I also love the two island set up but the space just wont allow  for both.

Here's one more kitchen inspiration I want to throw in there :)

We have vaulted ceilings in both the living room and kitchen.  I found this light and just LOVE it!  It's large and heavy and everything I want in an above island light fixture.  I think it'll look great on a dimmer!

I also decided to go with a farmhouse sink in the kitchen.  We have the single large bowl in our current kitchen and it's so much better for us than the double bowl.  This will be great too because it's quite larger than your average single bowl and we'll be able to fit pots and pans in it!

More Light Fixtures
She's a beauty!!  I plan to put this chandelier in the entry way, it's just perfect.

I think this will look amazing in our formal dining room!  You'll walk in through the foyer and see the teardrop chandelier and look to your right and this will be hanging above our cherry dining set.  Lovely :)

I plan to put a few of these in both hallways instead of the traditional ceiling lights.  It'll add a great touch of Old World.

Master Bathroom
While I'd like most of the house to be Old World, I think I may mix it up a bit in the master bathroom.  I fell in love with the picture below because of it's serene spa-like theme and really want to emulate it's feel.  It's more modern that my normal taste but who wouldn't want to feel like they are in a spa while in their very own bathroom?!

Doesn't this just look relaxing???

Here's the chandelier I choose to put over the over-sized chest in the bathroom.
Ooo lala!

And I'm still deciding on the faucets but I think my husband will really dig this set!

I plan to put one of these on either side of the 2 master bathroom mirrors - I'm still undecided on these though, I'm hoping they'll tie in the Old World to the modern features I chose.

Guest Bathroom

This is what I want to put in the guest bathroom as the main light fixture.  The faucet below will complement it perfectly!

The crystal handles are what did it for me!

This would look great on the wall in the bathroom.  I'm still not sure about this one, it really depends on how much light the chandelier provides.  We'll see!!

Office
Is this too big to put in a 15 x 16 office?  I just love the fixture and I'm hoping we can make it work!!
It's 26.5 inches long by 20.5 inches wide by 16.5 inches high.

Game Room Choices
This faucet is perfect for the wet bar!  Just what I was looking for!
The handles are super cute and will match my choice for the bathroom fixture below.

I want the sold cross handles, as pictured in the main photo.

I thought this light would look great on either side of the mirror in the game room bath room.  Charming if you ask me :)

That's it for now!!!  Will be back with more soon!!

Another Kitchen Light Idea
In response to Chris's comment - What about a pair of these hanging over the island?  It's 3.58 ft high by 21.5 inches wide.  I think it'd make a statement!!

New Floor Plan!!!

Hi!  So the architect (who is also our general contractor) just finished up the floor plan for our remodel!  I'm super excited about it because C and I we're driving ourselves crazy trying to draw up the plans using PowerPoint... which if you've ever used PowerPoint before you'd know that drawing things to scale is near impossible.  Anyway, check it out!

Current Floor Plan
I apologize if it's hard to see... The picture was taken with my iphone and the floor plan was previously all rolled up.
Okay, now on to the floor plan!  Parts of the layout are quite odd.  If you look to the top right of the Family room, that's the current master bedroom.  The master bathroom is very squished and the shower and toilet area are not made for anyone over 150 pounds or taller than 6 feet.
You'll also notice that to the left of the foyer they walled in the opening and added a door in the hallway to make that another bedroom.
And all of the walls have different textures throughout the house and where there is no tile on the floor there is nasty DIY-gone-wrong stained concrete.  Definitely in need of a makeover!!

Now for the exciting part!!!

New Kitchen/Master Suite Floor Plan!!!
I've tried pretty much everything to get that picture to rotate correctly and it just wont let me.  It should be rotated counter-clockwise 90 degrees.  Also I got a little pencil happy and started making notes about lighting, floors, and some small changes to the structure so sorry about that too.
If you can get past all that you'll see that we're moving the kitchen to the old master bedroom so that it overlooks the pool and is more accessible from the living room.  The garage is being converted into the new master suite too!!  That will also walk out to the pool area.  Yay!!!

Below is a large view of the old version of the area above just to give you a good idea.

I'm super excited to get to work!! Demo starts a week from today!!!

Update: 8/24/11

Finalized Floor Plan!
Here's the finalized kitchen floor plan:
Again, I'm so sorry that it's side-ways.  I cannot get it to flip!  The sink area overlooks the pool and the range area backs up to the master bedroom.

Master Bathroom, Closets, and Pantry area:

Master Bedroom:
The door on the top right of the screen walks out the the pool area!  The french doors at the bottom open up to a private patio (future project... not in the scope of the reno).  YAY!
